Indra Thomas is rapidly establishing herself as one of the world's major sopranos. Of her performance as "Imogene" in Bellini's Il Pirata at the Caramoor Festival, The New York Times wrote, "The mad scene was a triumph...the audience awarded her a tremendous ovation."
The 2005-2006 season saw her make a number of serious debuts; in Paris at the Festival de Saint Denis in a concert of Spirituals, in London under the direction of Sir Roger Norrington on opening night of the BBC Proms in which she performed in Tippett’s A Child of Our Time, the work which also served as her debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Colin Davis. She made her Spanish debut in a performance of the Verdi Requiem conducted by Jesus Lopez Cobos in a gala concert that was televised nationwide. She made her Russian debut in concerts of the Wesendonck Lieder with the Moscow Virtuosi under the direction of music direct Vladimir Spivakov and finally her debut with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in concerts of scenes from Porgy and Bess conducted by Yuri Temirkanov.
In opera, Ms Thomas has appeared as Aida at the Palm Beach Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Michigan Opera Theatre and most recently at the Choregies d’Orange opposite Roberto Alagna. Other roles include Amelia in Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and Hamburg State Opera, Liu in Turandot at the Metropolitan Opera, Imogene in Il Pirata and Desdemona in Otello at the Carmoor Festival, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with the Jacksonville Symphony, Elisabeth in Don Carlos at the Minnesota Opera and Boston Lyric Opera, title role in Luisa Miller with the Washington Concert Opera and Leonora in La forza del destino at the New National Theatre Tokyo.
Highlights of past concert engagements include her New York Philharmonic debut in excerpts from Porgy and Bess in a gala New Year’s Eve Concert conducted by Lorin Maazel and nationally televised on Live from Lincoln Center, concerts of the Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Strauss Four Last Songs with the Moscow Virtuosi, Villa Lobos’ La Foret Amazonian with the Radio France, Beethoven 9th Symphony with the Baltimore Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall with the New York Choral Society, Rossini’s Stabat Mater with The Little Orchestra Society, Chausson’s Poeme de l’amour et de la mer with the Orchestre National de Lyon, concerts of Porgy and Bess excerpts with the Gewandhaus Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Chailly, and concerts of A Child of Our Time with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Colin Davis.
Ms Thomas' recordings include a CD for National Public Radio of lieder by Strauss, Duparc and John Duke.
