The Prokofiev Marathon will be crowned by Alexei Volodin’s 3rd and 5th Piano Concerto performances during this second concert. The Guardian’s well known music critic Tim Ashley described Volodin’s interpretation of Prokofiev’s 3rd Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London as “a hard-hitting, edgy performance in which he played with staggering technique and furious accuracy.” In almost all the reviews about the pianist, his Prokofiev interpretation is described as “unique in our century and worth the long wait.” With BIPO’s selection of Ravel and Krenek for the opening and entr’acte, the Prokofiev Marathon–II is one of the concerts of the season that should not be missed.
