Sir John Tooley will be dearly missed

Sir John Tooley, who has played a pioneering role in the development of opera, music and ballet in the United Kingdom, has recently passed away. Tooley was an advisor to Borusan Sanat between 2005 and 2008.

Beginning his career at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Tooley was director of institutions such as Britten Estate, National Wales Opera, Almeida Theater and London Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to being the chairman of the Salisbury Festival and Rudolf Nureyev Foundation, he was also an Advisor to the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts. Tooley was the general director of the Royal Opera House from 1970 to 1988 and knighted in 1979. Sir John Tooley worked towards the advancement of art throughout his life. We will never forget his support for Borusan Sanat, and will always remember him with love and respect.
