ABSTRA was named after the title of a piece for piano by the American composer Garret Byrnes. In 2010 when Gülşah Erol and some musicians had crossed paths, they formed ABSTRA to make electroacoustic music. In monitoring the reactions made to the digital interventions, the idea was to explore the limits of the cello. Their subject was the journey of the created sounds, with its harmony and the clashes, and of balance and instability in space. When in May 26 2011 the group performed in Borusan Music House, the audience witnessed the dialogue between a sensual instrument in cello and controllers and instruments that are extensions of the latest technological designs.

In 2015, ABSTRA restarted performing as Korhan Argüdan and Gülşah Erol, both of who has worked with countless number of musicians (such as, Peter Brötzmann, Evan Parker, Joe Mcphee...)

Within the framework of new music, ABSTRA continues to perform improvised concerts while cultivating from elements of avant-garde jazz and free music.
